Can You Use AI Music in Ads? Rights & Costs
Can AI-generated music be used in client ads? Understand Suno plan rules, copyright limits, licensing records and the real cost of a finished soundtrack.

AI music can be part of a commercial film when the specific track, service terms and input materials permit that use. A download button is not proof of a commercial licence. Check the plan in effect when the track was created, what you supplied to the tool and the permissions your client needs before placing the music in a paid advertisement.
Can I use Suno music in a client advertisement?
Suno says tracks made while subscribed to its eligible paid plans receive commercial-use rights. Its free-plan guidance limits songs to non-commercial use. Its upgrade guidance also says a later subscription does not automatically grant commercial rights to earlier free-plan songs. These service rules were checked on 20 October 2026; review the linked terms for the specific track before delivery.
Keep the track identifier, creation date and evidence of the applicable plan together. If the song began on a free plan and the client now wants it, resolve its permission status rather than assuming a new subscription fixes the earlier output. Ask the service about an unclear case or choose another properly cleared track.
Does commercial permission mean I own the copyright?
Commercial permission from a tool and copyright protection are different questions. The US Copyright Office explains that using AI assistance does not itself prevent protection for qualifying human authorship. That is US guidance, not a determination of Indian law or of rights in your particular song. Do not promise a client exclusive ownership merely because a service allows commercial use.
Separate the rights in lyrics, an uploaded recording, a voice likeness and the generated output. If a client supplies lyrics or an audio reference, record that they have permission for the intended use. A celebrity-style voice prompt is not a substitute for permission to use a person's identity.
What does AI music actually cost?
Budget for more than the subscription. The work can include alternative cues, lyric revisions, choosing sections, timing a musical turn to the edit, cleaning transitions and preparing delivery versions. Exact plan prices can vary with billing options and region; use the official pricing page rather than treating an old dollar figure as a current rupee quote.
For an illustrative thirty-second product ad, a music brief might request a restrained opening, a lift at the product reveal and a clean ending under the final line. Compare the cost of creating and revising that cue with a suitable licensed library track or a commissioned composer. There is no universal cheapest option across all briefs.
How should I brief a soundtrack for an ad?
Describe the role of the music before naming a genre. Specify where dialogue must remain clear, which moment needs emphasis and how the ending should feel. Share the locked or approximate edit duration and identify whether the client wants vocals. Avoid asking the track to imitate a specific recording.
- Opening: should the music establish calm, energy or anticipation?
- Reveal: what visible event should receive emphasis?
- Voice: which lines need musical space?
- Ending: should the cue resolve or leave a deliberate pause?
- Versions: are instrumental, short and captioned exports required?
What belongs in the delivery folder?
Keep the approved track, applicable permission records, a cue note and the final mixed film. If separate stems or editable files are needed, confirm availability and delivery terms before promising them. Listen on speakers and headphones and check the quieter sections for sudden cuts, unwanted vocals or distortion.
Tool permission also does not guarantee that every publishing platform will monetize the finished work. Verify the destination's current rules separately. This guide is a production checklist, not a legal clearance of a particular track.
For the wider campaign, start with the AI ad brief and cost guide. For sound and final export checks, use the film delivery checklist. Discuss a film project with the soundtrack role and intended usage included in your brief.
